Antigen Detail

TargetGHRL
DescriptionGhrelin is a circulating hormone produced by the intestinal endocrine cells of the gastrointestinal tract, especially the stomach, , and is often referred to as "hunger hormone" because it increases food intake. When hungry, the blood level of ghrelin before meals is the highest, and it drops to a lower level after meals. Growth hormone releasing peptide may help to prepare food intake by increasing gastric motility and gastric acid secretion .

Ghrelin activates cells in the anterior pituitary and arcuate nucleus of the hypothalamus, [9] including neuropeptide Y neurons that cause appetite. Ghrelin stimulates the brain structure with specific receptors-growth hormone secretagogue receptor 1A (GHSR-1A). Ghrelin is also involved in the regulation of reward cognition, learning and memory, sleep-wake cycles, taste, reward behavior and glucose metabolism.

EnsemblENSG00000157017
OMIM605353
Involvement in DiseaseDiseases associated with GHRL include Body Mass Index Quantitative Trait Locus 11 and Bulimia Nervosa.
FunctionGhrelin is the ligand for growth hormone secretagogue receptor type 1 (GHSR). Induces the release of growth hormone from the pituitary. Has an appetite-stimulating effect, induces adiposity and stimulates gastric acid secretion. Involved in growth regulation.
Obestatin may be the ligand for GPR39. May have an appetite-reducing effect resulting in decreased food intake. May reduce gastric emptying activity and jejunal motility.

For Research Use Only.
