16S Ribosomal RNA Sequencing for Gut Microbiota Genomics Analysis
Nowadays, many microbiota classification and metagenomic analyses are based on the bacterial 16S ribosomal RNA (16S rRNA) gene. Creative Biolabs offers a comprehensive 16S rRNA sequencing service for the identification and classification of species in gut microbiota samples.
16S rRNA Gene
16S rRNA gene, coding for 16S rRNA, are used in reconstructing phylogenies, due to the slow rates of evolution of this region of the gene. The 16S rRNA gene is a suit target gene for sequencing DNA in samples containing up to thousands of different species, because it is a highly conserved component of the transcriptional machinery of all DNA-based life forms. Moreover, the 16S rRNA gene is composed of both variable and conserved regions. The conserved region makes universal amplification possible and the sequencing of variable regions allows discrimination between specific different microorganisms such as bacteria, archaea and microbial eukarya.

16S rRNA Sequencing
16S rRNA sequencing is commonly used for the identification, classification, and quantitation of microbes within complex biological mixtures including environmental samples (marine water) and gut samples (gut microbiome). Using 16S rRNA sequencing, you will get an overview of the community composition of a microbiome, identify differences between groups and variation within groups for a fast and affordable investigation of any microbial community.
16S rRNA sequencing is a type of amplicon sequencing. In detail, all or parts of the gene from microbiota samples are amplified with universal primers specific to the conserved regions. The primer sets are designed to capture the widest range of different microorganisms possible and then the amplified fragments are analyzed via next-generation sequencing (NGS).
