NCI-H441 [H441] cells were isolated in 1982 from the pericardial fluid of a male patient with papillary adenocarcinoma of the lung. Use these cells as a transfection host for expression of pulmonary surfactant protein (SP-B).

In Vitro PI Assay (Cell Viability)

Propidium iodide (PI) is another dye that can be used to distinguish viable and non-viable cells. PI can only bind with DNA of cells with damaged cell membranes and it cannot enter viable cells. Uptake of PI into cells can be monitored by flow cytometry (FCM) or fluorescence microscopy.
