Introduction
Plasmodium brasilianum is a parasite that infects platyrrhine monkeys in central and southern Africa. The microscope observation of Plasmodium brasilianum is similar to the human malaria pathogen Plasmodium malariae, and the genetic characteristics of the two parasites are also highly homologous, suggesting their intimate relationship. Plasmodium brasilianum can cause quartan fever after infecting New World monkeys.
