Plant Cell based Virus-Like Particle (VLP) Production Service

Creative Biolabs is a globe-leading biotechnology company devoted to providing first-class VLP-related services. As one trustworthy scientific partner, we are always pleased to leverage our professional skills to help customers with their diverse research and projects. In particular, we have established an innovative plant-based system for VLP manufacture.

Introduction of VLP Production in Plant Cell Expression System

Low refining costs, high-performance expression processing, and high expression levels of up to 80% total soluble protein are only a few of the benefits that plant expression systems offer over traditional methods. A significant advancement in the creation of recombinant plant-based vaccines was the use of plant expression systems. Successful construction of several experimental vaccines based on noninfectious plant VLPs has been accomplished. Over fifty-five distinct plant viruses, such as tomato mosaic virus (TMV), cucumber mosaic virus (CMV), alfalfa mosaic virus (AIMV), cowpea mosaic virus (CPMV), papaya mosaic virus (PapMV), and potato X virus (PVX), have been employed to establish a surface for the expression of antigens. VLPs based on human and animal viruses have also been produced in plant systems. Tomatoes, potatoes, tobacco, and lettuce have all been shown to express non-enveloped Norwalk virus capsid (NVCP) VLP, which shares a structure with native NV particles that are replicated in the human gastrointestinal system.

Workflow of VLP Production in Plant Cell Expression System

Recombinant protein-based vaccines may generally be made in a variety of host expression systems, including yeast, mammalian cells, insect cells, and plants. The research of vaccines based on plants has gained increasing traction recently. The agroinfiltration technique is used by Creative Biolabs to demonstrate a plant-expression system procedure in tobacco plants.

Step Details
Gene Synthesis and Cloning
  • Confirm the gene of interest
  • Gene synthesis and cloning into the plant expression vector
Transformation into Agrobacterium Cells
  • Transfect expression plasmids into Agrobacterium cells
Agroinfiltration into Tobacco Plant
  • Inject agrobacteria into the underside of a tobacco leaf with a needleless syringe to introduce exogenous DNA
Production of VLPs
  • Recombinant proteins start to express in the leaves 3-6 days after infiltration, and VLP subunits come together to form VLPs with surface epitopes.

Creative Biolabs has established multiple comprehensive platforms to provide customized virus-like particles (VLPs) production services. After years of dedication, we can provide an all-around service package from initial construct design, expression, purification (e.g., sucrose gradient, SEC), and characterization (e.g., TEM, DSL). Our core values are driven by a desire to help our clients achieve scientific excellence, and operate with the highest standards of integrity.
