Short Decsription
Six -reagent kit to detect the thinning and loss of elastic fibers in emphysema, arteriosclerosis and other vascular diseases, or the shrinkage of elastic tissue when blood vessels are invaded by tumors.
Description
Verhoeff kits are primarily used for elastin staining. However, it can be used to stain muscle fibers as well as collagen. Elastin fibers consist of elastin polymers and elastic microfibrils that form 3D networks in the extracellular matrix within connective tissues (skin, elastic cartilage, blood vessel walls, lung tissue, and vocal cords). It can be used in place of the Weigert-Van Gieson kit. Visualization of elastic fibers is especially important in cases of emphysema (atrophy of elastic tissue), arteriosclerosis (thinning and loss of elastic fibers), and many other cardiovascular diseases.
