Description
The Calcium Stain Kit (Modified Von Kossa) is designed for the histological visualization of calcium deposits in paraffin or cryosections. The modified Von Kossa method is a precipitation reaction in which silver ions react with phosphate (instead of calcium) in the presence of an acid. Photochemical degradation of silver phosphate to silver then occurs under UV light irradiation. Tissue is treated with silver nitrate solution, silver replaces calcium reduced by strong light, so it can be regarded as metallic silver. To confirm the presence of calcium, nuclear fast red solution was used to confirm the presence of calcium deposits.
