Background
The P2Y4 receptor was identified and cloned in the late 1990s. It belongs to the purinergic receptor family, which includes several receptors that respond to nucleotides like ATP and UTP (uridine triphosphate). P2Y4 receptors are expressed in various tissues throughout the body, including epithelial cells of the respiratory tract, gastrointestinal tract, kidney, and bladder. They are also found in immune cells and certain regions of the brain.
