Description
CHO-K1-Tg(Human sst4 Receptor) Division-Arrested Cell was engineered to express the receptor human sst4 (NM_001052). This cell line can be used to study somatostatin receptor signaling pathways, ligand binding kinetics, and the physiological roles of the sst4 receptor in various biological processes. Dividing-arrest cells are cells that are normally kept under specific culture conditions or treated with agents that prevent cell division from being held in a non-dividing state. This can be achieved through methods such as serum starvation, chemical inhibitors of cell cycle progression, or genetic modification.

Background
Somatostatin receptors (SSTRs) are activated by somatostatin secreted from nerve and endocrine cells. SSTRs are expressed in a tissue-specific manner and involved in the regulation of secretion of insulin, glucagon and growth hormone as well as cell growth induced by neuronal excitation in both the central and peripheral nervous systems. Aberrant expression of somatostatin receptors is known in a large number of human tumors. The human medullary thyroid carcinoma cell line TT expresses all SSTR subtypes. SSTR4 is highly expressed in human brain, lungs, gastrointestinal tract, pancreas and prostates. It inhibits the release of many hormones and other secretory proteins.
