Description
CYP2E1, also known as CYPIIE1, 4-nitrophenol 2-hydroxylase, P450-J, and CYP2E, is a member of the cytochrome P450 family. It metabolizes several precarcinogens, drugs, and solvents into reactive metabolites. CYP2E1 inactivates certain drugs and bioactivates xenobiotics into hepatotoxic or carcinogenic forms. The enzyme catalyzes the conversion of 4-nitrophenol to 4-nitrocatechol, along with NADPH and oxygen, playing a crucial role in drug metabolism.
