Short Decsription
Tri-kit for the detection of reactive iron (Fe3+) ions in cells (Prussian blue/Berlin blue reaction), using the fuchsic acid Van Gieson counterstain to differentiate between collagen and connective tissue.
Description
The Perls-Van Gieson kit is used to stain free iron and connective tissue. Fuchsin Acid Van Gieson is an integral part of this kit and contains two dyes (acid fuchsin, picric acid) to stain different tissue structures simultaneously. Acid fuchsin stains collagen fibers a deep red, while picric acid stains muscle fibers, red blood cells, and glial fibers yellow. Amyloid, hyaluronan, colloids and mucous membranes are stained with subtle differences between red and yellow. The potassium hexacyanoferrate solution reacts in the presence of iron and results in the precipitation of an insoluble blue dye.
