ITGB2
Integrin subunit beta 2 (ITGB2), also known as CD18 or LAD, encoded by ITGB2 gene, is a member of the beta-chain of the integrin family. It combines with multiple different alpha chains to form various integrin heterodimers. Functionally, integrins, the transmembrane proteins, play an essential role in cell adhesion as well as cell-surface mediated signaling. The deficiency of ITGB2 causes leukocyte adhesion deficiency. In addition, ITGB2 on leukocyte cell membranes can bind its ligands to participate in the process of the transmembrane transport of leukocytes from the circulation into the extravascular tissue regulating inflammation and tissue damage.
The ITGB2 is exclusively expressed in multiple tissues, including appendix, bone marrow, gallbladder, lung, lymph node, placenta, spleen and urinary bladder. It has been suggested that the change of ITGB2 expression may be associated with the processes of diseases, such as sepsis, hematological malignancies, thrombotic complications in primary myelofibrosis, chronic lymphocytic leukemia, leukocyte adhesion deficiency.
