Gut Pathogen Identification

Creative Biolabs provides a variety of services to support needs for microbiology research and development. Based on a gut microbiota platform, we can offer unique services that can identify and trace gut pathogens.

Background

Gut microbiota is a population of microorganisms that includes low populations of potentially pathogenic organisms. It is important to detect and identify pathogens quickly and accurately from the samples. Each species of pathogens carries with it a unique DNA or RNA signature that differentiates it from other organisms. Traditional approaches for microbial detection and identification include microbial cultivation, immunological (e.g., antibody-based) assays, and nucleic acid detection schemes-especially amplification methods such as PCR. Advances in DNA sequencing technology have made it possible to sequence complete microbial genomes rapidly and efficiently. These methods suffer from variable specificity and sensitivity.

There are many approaches we provide to identify gut pathogens.

Genomic Sequencing Technology

High-throughput sequencing is very valuable for pathogens discovery with high depth and precision. Unlike many other approaches, it requires little or no prior knowledge of the pathogen. We provide a large array of DNA sequencing services, such as 16S amplicon sequencing and whole-metagenome shotgun sequencing (WGS) that are based on next-generation sequencing (NGS) technology. The 16S rRNA-based sequencing can provide a full overview of the community, while WGS technology examines whole bacterial genomes, and provides more accurate detection at the species and diversity levels. We can assist you to choose the correct DNA sequencing service for your samples. The one-stop services contain sample preparation, sequencing and data analysis.

Microarrays

Microarray technology is used for quick and simultaneous detection of multiple pathogenic bacteria, meeting the demands of rapid and parallel detection and identification of many common pathogenic bacteria in one experiment. In DNA microarray, sample DNA is labeled with fluorescence by PCR, then hybridized to the probes on the chip, thus discriminating the pathogens. Antibody microarrays and small-molecule microarrays offer novel approaches for differentiating between pathogens.

Real-time PCR

Real-time PCR or quantitative PCR (qPCR) is different from simple PCR. qPCR is more sensitive than conventional PCR and it minimizes the risk of cross-contamination and allows high-throughput analysis and automation. We can provide one-stop gut pathogen identification services by qPCR. In addition, we have the ability to develop commercial qPCR kits that are available for the detection of gut pathogens.

Virome Sequencing

The virome lacks conserved marker genes and requires viral purification for cost-effective shotgun metagenomic sequencing. The one-stop services contain every step from sample preparation (enrichment and purification), sequencing, and data analysis.
