Description
Hematoxylin conforms. to Weigert is used in combination with various special (trichromatic) stains. Due to its resistance to acidic solutions, it retains the dye and stains the nuclear membrane. Unlike standard hematoxylin used in histology, such as hematoxylin acc. Harris, Mayer, Mayer-Lilly and Jill, Hematoxylin acc. to Weigert contains iron ions, which are resistant to acidic solutions and sudden pH changes. Hematoxylin conforms. to Weigert is most commonly used with the following three-color methods: A.F.O.G., Gomori Trichrome, Masson-Goldner Trichrome, Masson Trichrome, Van Gieson Trichrome, Elastica-Van Gieson, and Weigert-Van Gieson. Most of these methods are used to stain muscle and connective fibers.
