Description
IgA is most abundant immunoglobulin in body secretions and makes up to one fifth of the IgG concentration in serum. It serves both to defend against local infection and to prevent access of foreign antigens to the general immunologic system. IgA is also able to actively contribute to the initiation of inflammation, but at mucosal and non-mucosal sites.
