Creative Biolabs is an undisputed global leader in the field of in vitro diagnostic (IVD) antibody discovery. With years of experience and professional scientists, now we can provide high-affinity IVD antibody discovery services against galectin-3 marker to aid in the development of your IVD project.
Galectin-3 is the protein which encoded by the LGALS3 gene and expressed in the mitochondrion, cytoplasm, nucleus, cell surface, and extracellular space. Galectin-3 has a molecular weight of approximately 29-35 kDa and contains an extended N-terminal domain composed of tandem repeats of short amino acid segments linked to the carbohydrate-recognition-binding domain (CRD) with 130 amino acids. As a member of both galectin family and beta-galactoside-binding protein family, galectin-3 can not only binds to β-galactosides but also play an important role in cell-matrix interactions, macrophage activation, cell-cell adhesion, angiogenesis, metastasis, and apoptosis. The recent research has shown that galectin-3 can be served as the high-efficiency biomarker for both heart failure and cancer.

Galectin-3 Marker of Heart Failure
Heart failure (HF) is one type of cardiovascular diseases which characterized by ventricular dysfunction and cardiac remodeling. In the heart failure, the production of galectin-3 by cardiac fibroblasts and macrophages can stimulate the release of varies of mediator and promote the proliferation of cardiac fibroblast, ventricular dysfunction, and collagen deposition. Some studies have shown that the increased plasma level of galectin-3 can be detected in the patients with acute and chronic HF. In recent years, galectin-3 has been served as an outstanding biomarker to predict future events in patients with acute and chronic HF according to the measurement of circulating galectin-3 level. Moreover, as a novel marker, galectin-3 is able to provide more details about the relevant heart structure changes including inflammation, fibrosis, and remodeling.

Galectin-3 Marker of Cancer
The unique structure and various interaction properties allow galectin-3 show wide effects to cancer cells. The overexpression of galectin-3 promotes several functions for cancer cells including the adhesion to the extracellular matrix, the metastatic spreading, the neoplastic transformation, and the maintenance of transformed phenotypes. A lot of experiments have shown that compared with the healthy individuals, the serum galectin-3 levels are significantly higher in many types of cancer patients. In this case, galectin-3 has been served as the diagnostic marker to predict the progression and metastasis of different cancers.
