Creative Biolabs is one of the leading custom antibody generation and development providers. We specialize in the generation of antibodies against a wide range of targets for R&D, diagnostic, and therapeutic applications. Currently, we have launched a series of in vitro diagnostic (IVD) antibody development services targeting numerous diagnostic biomarkers of human diseases. Here, we introduce our IVD antibody development services for testosterone marker.
Testosterone is an anabolic steroid primary and the male sex hormone. In men, testosterone acts an important role in the development of male reproductive tissues, like the testis, prostate. It also promotes secondary sexual characteristics, such as increased bone mass, muscle, and the growth of body hair. Additionally, testosterone is involved in health and the prevention of osteoporosis. Insufficient quantities of testosterone in male human can lead to abnormalities including bone loss and frailty.
Biological Functions of Testosterone
Testosterone is indispensable for normal sperm development. It promotes the differentiation of spermatogonia by activating the Sertoli cells. Besides, testosterone regulates acute HPA (Hypothalamic–pituitary–adrenal axis) responses under the dominance challenge. Androgen, testosterone particularly, enhances muscle growth. Furthermore, testosterone also regulates the population of thromboxane A2 receptors on platelets, megakaryocytes and hence platelet aggregation in humans.
Sexual Arousal Function of Testosterone
When testosterone and endorphins meet the cervical wall after sexual intercourse, females can receive a spike in testosterone, endorphin, and also oxytocin levels, which adds to the hospitable physiological environment in the female internal reproductive tract for conceiving, and later for nurturing the conceptus in the pre-embryonic stages. For men, it stimulates feelings of love, desire, and paternal care. Besides, testosterone levels follow a nyctohemeral rhythm, peaking early each day.
Health Risks Induced by Testosterone Disorder
Testosterone increases beyond the castrate level can increase the possibility of spread of an existing prostate cancer. Also, maintaining normal testosterone levels in elderly men improves many parameters that are recognized to reduce cardiovascular disease risk, such as decreased visceral fat mass, increased lean body mass, decreased total cholesterol, and glycemic control. High testosterone levels are related to menstrual cycle disorders in both healthy women and clinical populations.
Testosterone as a Biomarker for Diseases
Based on the previous studies focusing on the role and functions of testosterone in metabolic system and certain associated conditions, testosterone is now thought to be a novel biomarker in several disorders and cancers such as reproductive system disorder and prostate cancer.
