Animal Care

With an ever-increasing number of human microbiome studies completed and underway, experimental systems employing models organisms will prove essential tools to interrogate and validate the associations identified between the human microbiome and disease. Animal models provide the ability to design interventions not possible in human studies that test specific hypotheses. Laboratory animals, particularly rodents, have proven to be an indispensable component in understanding the relationship of various species of bacteria to the development of disease. Creative Biolab is available to assist investigators and support staff with questions and concerns associated with managing animal care and use project. Our emphasis on customer service is demonstrated by providing high-quality animal care and research support in a timely manner while being courteous, professional, and responsive to our customers.

Animals Care and Husbandry

Animal Care

In recent years, the environment and husbandry of laboratory mice have also been vastly improved by using IVC racks, standardized food, bedding and water, and both biosecurity and animal welfare programs. Our lab is responsible for maintaining the health and welfare of all animals involved in research studies, predominantly mice and rats. Germ-free mice are bred in isolators that fully block exposure to microorganisms, with the intent of keeping them free of detectable bacteria, viruses, and eukaryotic microbes. Our team of experienced animal health technicians provides expertise to support techniques required by the research community. We provide a humane and high-quality animal care and develop program through proper veterinary and husbandry care, emphasizing respect and being an advocate for the research animal.

Monitoring Animal Models

Animal models provide further insight into how host-microbiome interplay. With expertise and decades of experience, we provide one-stop animal models construction including bacterial preparation, isolation, administration to animals (orally, intragastrically, or intrarectally). Our scientists are experienced in microbial isolation, phenotypical characterizations, DNA isolation, 16S RNA gene PCR, and sequence analysis. Several bacterial isolation methods include traditional isolation and cultivation, high-throughput isolation, flow cytometry-based isolation to meet your specific research needs. Our lab has the capability to maintain and monitor successful animal models. Some common methods are used to monitor animals as well as rule-out contamination: bacterial culture, microscopy to visualize the presence (or absence) of bacteria using Gram staining or nuclear DNA staining, and 16S rRNA gene amplification and sequencing.

At Creative Biolabs, we provide animal care and husbandry to a wide variety of animal models to ensure that the physiological and psychological needs of the animals are met. Our scientists work closely with clients to develop cutting-edge technologies and support gut microbiota research. We help researchers to design optimal strategies to ensure high quality, accurate, and reproducible experiments. If you are interested in our services, please feel free to contact us.
