Engineering Leukemia Cell Jurkat for Self-destruction
The R&D scientific team at Creative Biolabs has designed several efficient strategies to engineer Jurkat for cancer cell self-destruction purposes. By applying our staff's experience and a proven quality system, we are pleased to serve our clients with professionalism and expertise in this field.
Background of Leukemia
Leukemia is a broad term for cancers of the blood cells. The type of leukemia depends on the type of blood cell that becomes cancer and whether it grows quickly or slowly. Leukemia occurs most often in adults older than 55, but it is also the most common cancer in children younger than 15. Unlike solid tumors constraint to particular organs, leukemia cells are mobile through the bloodstream and can infiltrate other tissues. Therefore, the management of leukemia becomes complex. Leukemic cancer can be managed through the employment of chemotherapy, immunotherapy and stem cell transplantation. However, side effects of these therapies are associated, such as infection, low blood cell counts, graft versus host diseases and formation of kidney stones. Long-term effects include an increased risk of heart muscle injury, infertility, thyroid dysfunction, chronic fatigue and secondary cancer. Therefore, researchers worldwide are trying to develop effective drugs against leukemia with minimal side effects.
Why Choose Jurkat Cell Line?
The Jurkat cell line is an immortalized T lymphocyte cell line that was established from the peripheral blood of a 14-year boy with acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL) at first relapse in 1976. The Jurkat cell line has most often been used as a prototypical T cell line to study multiple events in T cell biology, including a) T cell signaling and b) molecular events in the HIV infection life cycle. In T cell signaling, the Jurkat cell line has been used to model and characterize signaling events in T cell activation, a critical process in an effective adaptive immune response.
