Toxicological Evaluation of Venom Peptides
Why Do Toxicological Evaluation
Venom is a complex mixture of proteins, small molecules, and peptides. Most venoms have certain biological activities, including toxicity, such as neurotoxicity, cytotoxicity, etc. Scorpion venom has been shown to be composed of cytotoxic peptides, neurotoxins, and proteases. Among them, neurotoxins make up a significant part of the total protein of the venom, and they have the effect of modulating sodium and potassium channels. However, after being bitten by a venomous scorpion, it can cause side effects such as redness, swelling, blisters, nausea and vomiting, and arrhythmia. Therefore, toxicity testing of venom and its constituents is very important for the safety assessment of drugs. Creative Biolabs provides customized venom peptide toxicity testing services to simplify and accelerate the client's project process.

Our Toxicological Evaluation Assay of Venom
-
In Vitro Cytotoxicity Assay
The effect of venom peptides on cell viability was detected in vitro by specific methods, such as MTT assay and LDH assay.
-
LD50/ED50 Test
The LD50 test is the most commonly used method for toxicity assessment. This test measures the minimum dose of toxin needed to kill half of the experimental animals. Theoretically, LD50 is a standardized value that can be used to compare the toxicity of different toxins with each other.
-
Organ-on-a-Chip
Organ-on-a-chip has potential advantages for modal-specific evaluation, as it allows for the modeling of complex human responses in tightly controlled in vitro systems, and the tandem connection between organs can be designed and applied to specific environments or uses. Single-organ-on-a-chip provides an alternative way to evaluate the toxicity of drug candidates in a variety of complex human 3D tissues.
