ITGAV
Integrin subunit alpha V (ITGAV) is also known as CD51, MSK8, VNRA, VTNR. Characterized by the seven FG-GAP repeats in its amino acid sequence, ITGAV is a protein that belongs to the integrin alpha chain family and it is the receptor of various ligands such as cytotactin, fibronectin, fibrinogen, laminin, matrix metalloproteinase-2, osteopontin, osteomodulin, prothrombin, thrombospondin, vitronectin, and vWF. ITGAV forms different Integrin (a series of heterodimeric integral membrane proteins) isoforms with five beta subunits (αVβ1, αVβ3, αVβ5, αVβ6, and αVβ8) after proteolytic processing of the ITGAV. αVβ3 is known as vitronectin receptor and its mutation and abnormal expression is often associated with melanoma and glioblastoma, while that of αVβ1, a receptor for vitronectin and fibrinogen, is often presented in ocular melanoma and neurological tumors.
ITGAV is the target for monoclonal antibodies such as intetumumab and abituzumab for colorectal cancer treatment while other immunotherapeutic approaches, such as ADCs, are under active development.
