Introduction of HCT116 Cell Line
The HCT116 cell line is known to be a highly aggressive cell line with little or no capacity to differentiate. It was isolated from the epithelial tumorigenic colon tissue of an adult male patient with colorectal carcinoma. The cells are adherent with an epithelial morphology and have a mutation in codon 13 of the KRAS proto-oncogene. The HCT116 cell line, which has a pseudo-diploid karyotype, is a popular model in the fields of cancer cell biology, intestinal immunity, and inflammation. HCT116 cells show high metastatic potential. Following implantation into immunocompromised mice, the cells form primary tumors and distant metastases (lung, liver, and lymph node metastases).
