Toxicity Assessment by Quantification of Electrolyte
Based on our advanced toxicity assessment platforms and powerful technology, Creative Biolabs provides a complete range portfolio of assays for toxicity assessment including quantification of electrolytes. As an end-to-end company offering high-quality analytical development and qualification services, we have the best advantages in assisting our worldwide customers.
Introduction of Electrolyte
Electrolytes are minerals that have many functions in the body including maintaining water balance, helping muscles contract and relax, and helping transmit nerve impulses. The most common electrolytes are sodium, potassium, and chloride, as shown in Fig.1. Electrolyte balance is of vital importance to keep the body healthy, since electrolyte imbalance may be a cause of severe health conditions and a reflection of toxicity effects.

Extreme electrolyte disturbances may cause irregular heartbeat and nerve disease which may be life-threatening. Electrolyte disorders are one major complication of diseases such as acute kidney injury and cancers. Electrolyte abnormalities, including hypokalemia, hyperkalemia, hyponatremia, hypernatremia, hypocalcemia, hypomagnesemia, and hypophosphatemia, are commonly reported adverse effects of drugs, like cisplatin in cancer chemotherapy. Therefore, electrolyte test is of essential importance for the monitoring of treatment-induced toxic effects and the assessment of abnormality causes and complications in the process of vaccine development and pharmaceutical research. Electrolyte Production Measurement Services at Creative Biolabs
Measurement of electrolyte levels in the initial stages and prior to treatment is a fundamental requirement to identify the potential risks of the progression to chronic kidney disease. By comparing the concentration changes of electrolytes between the experimental group and control group, we may timely monitor possible toxic effects, like tissue inflammation, caused by the metabolism of candidate drug or vaccine. At the same time, electrolyte monitoring helps adjust the dosage or frequency of treatments that have been given to manage electrolyte abnormalities and avoid adverse drug or vaccine events.
Considering its importance in the evaluation of toxic effects, electrolyte measurement has been researched well by scientists of Creative Biolabs. The physiological fluid samples to determine electrolytes, mainly including serum and urine, could be collected by invasive or noninvasive methods. Measurement of the electrolyte could be achieved by various methods, such as osmolality analysis, Bioelectrical impedance and conductance analysis, Ion-selective electrodes (ISE) techniques, and Ion-sensitive fluoroprobes. Among these methods, mass spectrometry (MS) with electrospray ionization (positive ion mode (ESI+) and negative ion mode (ESI-) are widely used to identify and quantify electrolyte analysis after optional separation techniques by gas chromatography (GC), high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC), or capillary electrophoresis.
With decades of in-depth study of the toxicity assessment area, Creative Biolabs is one most potent professional technical developers. We will bridge the gap between your sample materials and a well-rounded assessment result of your specific treatment strategies. With dedicated laboratory equipment and specially trained technicians, the detection procedures could be performed on semi-automatic or fully automated biochemistry analyzers, making it a routine service at Creative Biolabs.
