Growth Factors

Products

Growth factors are crucial in animal embryo development including humans and have received increasing interest in the field of stem cell research in recent years. Based on our superior molecular biology and cell platforms, Creative Biolabs offers diverse growth factors to meet global clients' research demands and advance their stem cell research.

Definition of Growth Factors

Growth factors are defined as a series of signaling proteins with the capacity to induce specific and diverse cellular behaviors such as cell proliferation, cell migration, cell maturation, and cell differentiation via interacting with corresponding membrane receptors. They can secret through endocrine, paracrine, or autocrine pathways, and function locally because of their short lifespan and slow diffusion between cells. Growth factors always imply a positive effect on cell behaviors like enhancing cell proliferation and now are considered as a subset of cytokine, which is a neutral term and may affect harmfully on cell events such as cell growth inhibition. Diverse or combined growth factors maintain the body's homeostasis and precisely guide all development events throughout human life.

Growth Factors in Stem Cell Research

Human iPSC breaks ethical issues around human embryonic stem cells involved and provides a trustable tool that dramatically enhances human development research. Employing proper growth factors to stimulate different cell events has become a popular method in stem cell research. For example, fibroblast growth factor 2 (FGF2) is the key compound of commercial mediums like E8 and TeSR to maintain normal human iPSC growth and self-renewal. Growth factor-induced cell differentiation further expands the feasibility of stem cell research by providing unlimited research materials, like transforming growth factor beta (TGF-β)-mediated mesodermal differentiation. Adding a specific growth factor or combination in the predesigned amount and at proper spatiotemporal points can produce organoids, an in vitro 3D cell aggregates vividly recapitulating in vivo development program and organ complexity. Taken together, growth factors penetrate deeply into all aspects of stem cell research.
