BK virus Virus-like Particles (BKV VLPs) (CAT#: VLP-054YF)

Recombinant BK virus (BKV VLPs) are produced in mammalian HEK293 human cells, assembled with VP 1 proteins. VLP is mimicking the native 3D structure of viruses which can elicit strong immune responses. However, VLPs lack viral genomic material which makes them non-infectious, unable to replicate and enhance the safety during manufacture and administration. BKV VLPs can be used in the development of BKV diagnostics and in vaccine development and R&D (including use as an immunogen).

  • Virus Overview
  • The BK virus is a member of the polyomavirus family. Past infection with the BK virus is widespread, but significant consequences of infection are uncommon, with the exception of the immunocompromised and the immunosuppressed. The BK virus rarely causes disease but is typically associated with patients who have had a kidney transplant; many people who are infected with this virus are asymptomatic. If symptoms do appear, they tend to be mild: respiratory infection or fever. These are known as primary BK infections.
  • Virus Structure
  • Non-enveloped double-stranded DNA viruses
  • Related Disease
  • Espiratory infection or fever
