Introduction | Complement C5b is a protein fragment released from cleavage of complement component C5 by protease C5-convertase. The released C5b is the first complement component to initiate complement membrane attack complex formation, which is still attached to C5 convertase. C5b binds to one unit of C6, forming C5b-6 complex. Then C7, C8, and C9 successively bind to C5b-6 complex, leading to the formation of MAC conplex. |
