Q&As
How is the micellization process formed?
The detergent interacts with membrane proteins and membranes in the form of micelles, and protein dissolution depends on the formation of micelles in solution. Micelles are often considered as dynamic structures with a "rough" surface. The detergent monomer within the micelle is rapidly exchanged with the free detergent monomer in solution. Once membrane proteins are dissolved, we generally think of detergent molecules as forming torus around hydrophobic transmembrane domains.
