CACO2 Cell Line
Caco2 is a cell line derived from a primary colonic tumor obtained from a 72-year-old patient and is widely known for its rapid differentiating ability. It has been widely used as a model of the intestinal epithelial barrier. This cell line is heterogeneous and contains cells with slightly different properties. Caco2 cells differ from normal enterocytes for mutations of APC and β-catenin genes. It can be used as a model to study the immune response of intestinal epithelial cells and their involvement in pathology. Caco2 is a suitable transfection host and has applications in cancer and toxicology research for certain types of colon cancer in humans.
