CD27

This gene encodes a protein that belongs to the TNF-receptor superfamily. The development and ongoing maintenance of T cell immunity depend on this receptor. It controls the activation of B cells and the production of immunoglobulin by binding to the receptor CD70. This receptor transmits the signals that activate MAPK8/JNK and NF-kappaB. It has been demonstrated that the adaptor proteins TRAF2 and TRAF5 mediate this receptor's signaling mechanism. This receptor can bind to the proapoptotic protein CD27-binding protein (SIVA), which is thought to be crucial in the apoptosis this receptor causes.
