Introduction
Human parainfluenza viruse (HPIV) is responsible for human parainfluenza, which belongs to the Paramyxoviridae family and contains four single-stranded RNA viruses that are closely related to human and veterinary diseases. The virion size is around 150-250 nanometers and its RNA genome contains approximately 15,000 nucleotides. HPIV was first discovered in 1950s, and the typing of the virus is mainly based on its antigen and genetic characteristics. Currently, the viruses mainly contains 1-4 serotypes. In children with lower respiratory tract infections, the cases caused by the virus accounts for about one-third.
