New Products for Monkeypox Virus (MPXV)
The 2022 monkeypox outbreak occurs in the United Kingdom in May, which is the first incidence of widespread community transmission outside of Africa in history. Subsequently, cases have been confirmed in at least twenty countries, including America, Europe, and Australia. Creative Biolabs now offers comprehensive services and products for monkeypox virus (MPXV) related research. Under the guidance of rich experience, we can quickly and accurately solve all the problems encountered in the development of monkeypox research for you.
Introduction of Monkeypox Virus (MPXV)
Monkeypox is a disease in humans and many other animals caused by monkeypox virus infection. Monkeypox virus (MPXV), which is double-stranded DNA virus, belongs to the Orthopoxvirus genus within family Poxviridae. Virus from the Orthopoxvirus genus also causes other diseases, such as variola virus (causing smallpox, which has been eradicated in 1980), vaccinia virus (used in the smallpox vaccine), and cowpox virus. Monkeypox virus was first discovered in 1958 and was named because of its initial detection in monkeys. It has two known clades, one in the Congo Basin region and one in Western Africa. Monkeys are not a natural reservoir of MPXV, but non-human primates and African rodents may have the virus and be able to infect people. The natural reservoir of monkeypox is still unknown.
Monkeypox virus infection usually causes lesions, and the formation of skin nodules or disseminated rash. In the Congo Basin (Central African) clade of monkeypox, the risk of death (if not treated) reported is as high as 10%. Smallpox vaccines can prevent infection with 85% effectiveness. Jynneos, a monkeypox vaccine, was approved for the treatment of adults in USA. The current standard procedure is using tecovirimat, an antiviral drug, which aims to treat virus infections such as smallpox and Monkeypox and has been approved in the United States and European Union.
