CCR8

The beta chemokine receptor protein that this gene produces is projected to be a seven transmembrane protein, much like G protein-coupled receptors. The migration of different cell types into the inflammatory areas depends on chemokines and their receptors. The thymus is where this receptor protein expresses itself most frequently. This receptor's ligands include I-309, thymus activation-regulated cytokine (TARC), and macrophage inflammatory protein-1 beta (MIP-1 beta). Studies on this receptor and its ligands suggested that they may control the apoptosis of thymic cells and monocyte chemotaxis. More specifically, this receptor may help activated T lymphocytes locate correctly within antigenic challenge sites and targeted regions of lymphoid organs.
