PDCD1

Programmed cell death protein 1 (PDCD1) is an immune-inhibitory receptor that is produced on activated T cells and is involved in the control of T-cell functions, including effector CD8+ T cell functions. Additionally, this protein can encourage CD4+ T cells to differentiate into T regulatory cells. Melanomas among other tumor forms express PDCD1, which has been shown to contribute to anti-tumor immunity. Additionally, it has been demonstrated that this protein plays a role in protecting against autoimmunity, but it can also contribute to the inhibition of efficient anti-tumor and anti-microbial immunity.
