DOPC Liposomes (CAT#: LDLY-0123-LY14)

Description
Liposomes are extensively used to study the interaction of proteins, peptides and other molecules with the surface of a lipid membrane. This product is mainly made of saturated Phosphatidylcholine (PC). PC is the most abundant phospholipid in eukaryotic cell membranes and it can form lipid bilayers. PC also plays a important role in liposome.

FAQs Published Data Customer Reviews Related Sections
  1. How do DOPC liposomes help in understanding lipid bilayer formation?

As PC is a major component of cell membranes, DOPC liposomes provide a model system for studying bilayer formation and properties.

  2. Can DOPC liposomes be used to study the effects of cholesterol on membranes?

By comparing them with cholesterol-containing liposomes, researchers can study the effects of cholesterol on membrane properties.

  3. How should multiple aliquots be taken from the vial?

It is advised to take extreme care in not contaminating the vial, and it is recommended to handle the vial under a sterile hood.

  4. Why should liposomes not be frozen?

Ice crystals that form during freezing will rupture the lipid membrane of the liposomes, changing their size.

Dependence of the ratio h/Rc on the Req for the DOPC liposomes.

This study measured the dielectric properties and lamellarity of single liposomes using scanning dielectric microcopy (SDM). The researchers characterized the size and shape of DOPC liposomes using the equivalent spherical radius (Req) and the h/Rc. The results demonstrate that the ratio h/Rc ratio of DOPC liposomes is related to Req, indicating a correlation between lamellarity and size. Using DOPC liposomes as a model system, this paper reveals the relationship between dielectric properties and lamellarity, providing a foundation for understanding the functions of biological membranes.
