The Live Attenuated YFV Vaccines
Yellow fever virus infection is an acute infectious disease, which is mainly following three different periods - infection, remission, and intoxication. The live attenuated YFV vaccines can be made up of different YFV strains, include 17D-derived live attenuated vaccines. Many kinds of live attenuated YFV vaccines have been approved to be safe and highly effective. However, research show that a number of recipients often experience minor adverse events after vaccination, such as headache, fever, and soreness at the injection site. People have paid more attention to the adverse events of the live attenuated YFV vaccines, and thus series of administration of the live attenuated YFV vaccine have also been identified. These events have been defined as vaccine-associated neurotropic disease (YEL-AND).
YEL-AND is commonly found in 17D-derived YFV vaccines which representing a global health concern. The yellow fever 17D vaccine is usually considered to be very safe with over 500 million doses given and only minor cases of side effects on recipients. However, the side effect has a higher viremia and a high fatality rate, which leads to a restriction of 17D vaccine use in several populations.
