Creative Biolabs is able to discover naïve ferret monoclonal antibodies via our specific Native™ Antibody Discovery Platform.
Ferret (Mustela putorius furo) is a kind of domestic animals belong to the family Mustelidae (also includes weasel, otter and mink). In biological research, ferret is well recognized as the indispensable mammalian model in the investigation of influenza viruses. Because of their relatively small size, similar lung physiology with human and other clinical features associated with human diseases, ferret is obviously an attractive species for the studies related to virus-host interactions. Nonetheless, the immune system of this species has not been well characterized, implicating ferret a potential role as novel host species for antibody discovery. Compared with other small laboratory animals (e.g. mice, rats, hamsters, rabbits, etc.), ferret has relatively distant evolutionary relationships which may induce better immune response for some antigens that are hardly recognized by other species. In addition, compared with other large laboratory animals (e.g. dogs, monkeys, goats, etc.), ferrets are relatively inexpensive but sufficiently large for periodic blood collection for either antibody discovery or other immune assays. The DNA sequences between ferret and canine (dog) are highly homological to each other, so ferret host responses to some canine reagents can be successfully assessed. Moreover, studies revealed several immunological cross-reactivities between ferrets and human, for instance some antibodies against human CD markers can also react with CD markers on ferret peripheral blood leucocytes (PBLs). In this way, ferret is considered as a kind of useful outbred experimental animal which may especially contribute to the understanding of human infection.
With decades’ experience in antibody research and development, scientists from Creative Biolabs have developed the unique Native™ Antibody Discovery Platform to acquire ferret monoclonal antibodies with the most natural features. This platform is mainly based on the antigen-specific B lymphocytes cytometry technology, which can isolate a plenty of monoclonal antibody candidates with native paired heavy- and light-chains. In addition, monoclonal antibodies selected by this platform matured in vivo, thereby possessing relative higher specificity, affinity and stability than antibodies that produced by other traditional technologies. Currently, Creative Biolabs is able to utilize this platform to discover monoclonal antibodies from various species, including but not limited to ferret, mink, rodents, rabbits, monkey, chicken, dog, camel, shark and alligator.
