NAA Services for Anti-Smooth Muscle Antibodies (SMA)

Scientists at Creative Biolabs are focusing on applying excellent science and technology to discover and develop new diseases diagnosis approaches with the goal of becoming the pioneer in the natural autoantibody (NAA) area. With years of experience and high-end technologies in NAA research, Creative Biolabs has successfully developed a series of innovative and diversified NAA platforms to provide fast and convenient services against anti-smooth muscle antibodies (SMA) for our worldwide customers.

Background of Anti-smooth Muscle Antibody (SMA)

Anti-smooth muscle antibodies (SMA) belong to a heterogeneous group of antibodies that react with protein subunits of different types of cytoplasmic filaments such as microfilaments, microtubules or intermediate filaments. SMA test detects antibodies that attack smooth muscle. This test requires a blood sample and is carried out in the same way as any routine blood test. Normal results mean that no significant SMAs are detected in your blood. Along with Plasmodium infection, a test that comes back positive for SMAs may also be due to autoimmune liver disease, cancers.

The Role of Anti-smooth Muscle Antibody (SMA) in Malaria

Autoantibodies of many different types are present in the sera of patients infected with malaria parasites, including anti-nuclear antibodies (ANA) with fluorescence speckled pattern, anti-smooth muscle antibodies (SMA), anti-mitochondrial antibodies (AMA) and rheumatoid factor (RF). There was no detectable antibody to double-stranded DNA. SMA has been found during the course of induced murine malaria and titers of SMA correlate with titers of anti-malarial antibodies. Acute malarial infection is normally associated with a high incidence of SMA. The overall incidence and the titers of SMA rose progressively 2 and 4 weeks after acute infection in some cases.
