GLP1R

This gene encodes a 7-transmembrane protein that serves as a receptor for the hormone glucagon-like peptide-1 (GLP-1), which promotes the release of insulin in response to glucose. This cell surface receptor, which is internalized in response to GLP-1 and GLP-1 analogs, is crucial in the signaling pathways that result in insulin production. In animal models, it also exhibits neuroprotective properties. The protein is an important drug target for the treatment of type 2 diabetes and stroke.
