Fluorescent Labeling of Bacteriophage

Bacteriophage and viruses are composed of protein-encapsulated DNA or RNA, so they are suitable for fluorescent labeling. Fluorescent proteins are playing a vital role in cell biology research. Bacteriophage-Drug Conjugation

Bacterial resistance to traditional antibiotics is a public health problem, but the lack of selectivity limits the use of extremely potent antimicrobials. The new application of bacteriophage as a targeted drug carrier provides a new idea to solve this problem. For example, a novel drug conjugation strategy was developed based on the attachment of hydrophobic drugs to bacteriophages via antibiotics that act as branched linkers for solubility enhancement. This new formulation enables the drug-loading capacity of bacteriophages to be significantly improved, thereby improving their performance as targeted drug-loading nanoparticles. Importantly, bacteriophages are the workhorse of antibody engineering and have attracted a lot of attention in nanobiotechnology.
