Introduction of Plant Disease and Plant Pathogen
Plant disease is damage to a plant that prevents it from functioning to its fullest potential. Plant diseases include abiotic or non-infectious diseases caused by external conditions of plants and biological or infectious diseases caused by pathogens. Plant diseases can seriously affect human production and life and damage the economy. Studies have shown that more than 15% of food production is lost to plant diseases.
With the development of molecular biology, a series of strategies have been developed to improve the pathogen resistance of plants. In recent years, the potential of recombinant antibodies (rAbs) to neutralize viruses, bacteria, and fungi has provided new strategies to engineer crop resistance through the expression of pathogen-specific antibodies. Crop resistance can be engineered by expressing pathogen-specific antibodies, antibody fragments, or antibody fusion proteins. In contrast to traditional approaches, almost any molecule of interest can be used as an antigen to develop recombinant antibodies, and expression of functional pathogen-specific rAbs in plants has been shown to provide effective pathogen protection.

Types of Plant Pathogens
Similar to pathogens that cause disease in humans and animals, plant pathogens also contain a variety of organism types:
- Fungi and fungal-like organisms (FLOs)
- Viruses and viroids
- Phytoplasmas
- Bacteria
- Nematodes
- Parasitic higher plants
