Introduction of Mycoplasma
Mycoplasma is a genus of bacteria belonging to the class Mollicutes. Till now, more than 100 species have been classified in the genus Mycoplasma. Vertebrates and arthropods are the main hosts of the genus Mycoplasma. Mycoplasma is the smallest known free-living microorganism with about 0.2-0.3µm in diameter. In humans, mycoplasma can be present in the throat, upper respiratory tract, and genitourinary tract as part of the normal flora. Among them, Mycoplasma pneumoniae is a common cause of upper respiratory tract infection. Studies have shown that Mycoplasma pneumoniae causes pneumonia in 15% to 50% of adults and an even higher percentage of children. Mycoplasma testing can be used to determine whether people are infected with Mycoplasma, commonly used detection methods include serology, PCR, or cell culture.
In general, both IgM and IgG can be detected in the blood. IgM antibody is the first antibody produced by the body after infection and rises first in a short period of time and then falls. IgG antibody production lags behind IgM and will rise over time and then stabilize.
