Introduction Rickettsia conorii is a Gram-negative obligate intracellular bacterium belonging to the genus Rickettsia, which can cause various human diseases, including boutonneuse fever, Mediterranean spotted fever, Israeli tick typhus, and other names that designate the location of occurrence. This bacterium has distinct clinical features and is a highly adaptable pathogen that can survive and replicate in a wide range of host cells. OmpA is the R. conorii surface protein that interacts with α2β1 integrin.
