Fatty Acid Composition Analysis Service

Precision Research Through Seaweed Fatty Acid Analysis

Creative Biolabs is a trusted partner in the analysis of Biomass components such as Seaweed. As research continues, the nutritional role and biological functions of fatty acids from seaweeds are increasingly receiving widespread attention. We provide a reliable seaweed fatty acid analysis service according to our highly sensitive and reproducible analytical systems. Our goal is to identify and characterize various types of fatty acids in seaweeds, and to support our clients in analyzing the chemical composition of seaweeds and digging deeper into their application value.

Based on their unique biological activities, fatty acids from seaweeds have great applications in pharmaceuticals, cosmetics, nutraceuticals, etc. However, the composition and diversity of fatty acids hinder their detailed characterization and development. Our analytical team has developed a complete gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (GC–MS) based assay process for the detailed analysis of fatty acids from different species of seaweeds. As with our other seaweed analyses such as Amino Acid Analysis and Elemental Composition Analysis, our fatty acid analysis method has been validated for accurate and reliable results.

GC-MS is one of the means of analyzing fatty acids and is a reliable and accurate analytical method. It has many advantages such as a wide detection range, good reproducibility, and high sensitivity. We use GC-MS technology to achieve efficient and accurate quantitative analysis of the following 14 fatty acids.

Arachidic acid Lauric acid Linoleic acid Caprylic acid
Behenic acid Palmitic acid Oleic acid Erucic acid
Decanoic acid Lignoceric acid Stearic acid Myristic acid
Palmitoleic acid Linolenic acid - -

Advantages of Seaweed Fatty Acid Analysis Service

Published data

Seaweeds contain a variety of essential fatty acids, which have applications in food, medicine, cosmetics, and other fields. Studying the chemical composition and nutritional properties of seaweeds such as fatty acids can help explore their research potential and application value. The present study analyzed the chemical composition (proteins, various elements, 17 fatty acids, etc.) of 15 species of seaweeds collected from the coastal areas of Sri Lanka. The researchers found that palmitic acid was the major saturated fatty acid. Homo-γ-linolenic (C20:3n6) and linoleic acid (C18:2n6) were the major polyunsaturated fatty acids in red seaweed. In conclusion, the detailed analysis of the composition of these 15 seaweeds provided some data to support the study and determination of their nutritional value and industrial potential. Meanwhile, this study also provided a basis for us to optimize the fatty acid analysis methods in seaweeds.1

FAQs

Q1: What are the functions of analyzing fatty acids in seaweed?

A1: In recent years it has been found that seaweeds contain high levels of polyunsaturated fatty acids, such as arachidonic acid and alpha-linolenic acid. They are considered essential nutrients and have properties such as antiviral. In addition to this, they play a crucial role in the prevention of diabetes, among others. Analyzing the fatty acid composition of seaweeds helps in determining their nutritional value, identifying the content of specific fatty acids, and assessing their suitability for various applications.

Q2: What analytical techniques can be used for seaweed fatty acid analysis?

A2: There are many commonly used techniques for seaweed fatty acid analysis, such as GC-MS, liquid chromatography-mass spectrometry, and thin-layer chromatography, which can quantify and identify different fatty acids in seaweed samples.
