Seaweeds have good commercial value and health benefits due to the presence of a wide range of active compounds such as dietary fibers, fatty acids, and phenols. In this study, phenolic compounds, total tannin content, total flavonoid content, and total phenol content present in eight seaweeds were examined for their antioxidant activity. The researchers finally identified a total of 54 phenolic compounds from these seaweeds. Among them, Centroceras sp. had the highest content of phenolic compounds. They found brown seaweed species had the highest total polyphenol content. From the study, it is clear that seaweeds are an important source of phenolic compounds, which makes seaweeds have great potential for pharmaceutical and food applications. Also, this study provides a demonstration for us to detect and analyze phenolics in seaweeds.
