Seaweed Elemental Quantitative Analysis Service

Precise Quantitative Analysis of the Elemental Composition of Seaweeds

Creative Biolabs has always been the most trusted partner for its clients in all aspects of Biomass Analysis such as Seaweed. Seaweed is a rich source of trace elements and essential minerals. At Creative Biolabs, we use our expertise to provide our clients with a trustworthy and demand-appropriate seaweed elemental composition analysis service. We offer a variety of methods and combinations of analytical services depending on your testing objectives, sample type, and quality requirements.

The elemental composition contained in seaweeds from different sources varies greatly depending on their environmental conditions, geographic location, and morphological characteristics. Our analysts have investigated various analytical methods to quantify elemental concentrations in seaweed samples. Our goal is to accurately analyze all types of elements in seaweed through continuous optimization and validation.

  • Elemental analyzer

We analyze the content of five elements: nitrogen, sulfur, carbon, hydrogen, and oxygen through the elemental analyzer. The analyzer adopts a high-temperature combustion thermal conductivity analysis method to quickly and accurately determine the content of these elements in the sample. It has the advantages of a low detection limit of elements, accurate quantification, and a small amount of test samples.

  • Nitrogen
  • Sulfur
  • Carbon
  • Hydrogen
  • Oxygen
  • Inductively coupled plasma-optical emission spectrometry (ICP-OES)

We analyze the content of various elements in seaweed by the ICP-OES technique. This method simultaneously detects multiple elements in the sample, with fast analytical speed and low sample consumption. Meanwhile, it has a low detection limit and is suitable for the determination of multi-component samples, which has a unique advantage in qualitative analysis.

Published data

Seaweeds contain dietary fiber, lipids, minerals, and other nutrients. Detection of lipids and proteins in seaweeds helps to study their nutritional value and industrial applications. In this study, the chemical composition of 15 seaweeds including ash, various elements, proteins, etc., were tested and compared. The researchers found that these 15 seaweeds had a high percentage of dietary fiber. Brown seaweed had the highest protein content. The content of elements varied, but all 15 seaweeds had relatively high concentrations of Ca and K. This study provided some data support for the study of the nutritional value of seaweeds, as well as a methodological basis for us to detect various elements in seaweeds.1

FAQs

Q1: Why is it necessary to analyze the elemental composition in the research of seaweed's nutritional value, industrial application, etc.?

A1: Seaweeds contain a wide range of essential minerals and trace elements such as sodium, calcium, potassium, phosphorus, iron, and copper. Due to strong bioaccumulation and adsorption capacity, the minerals contained in seaweed may be numerous. In addition, it may also accumulate some toxic metals. Elemental composition analysis provides reliable information for seaweed cultivation, food safety assessment, and industrial applications. It is also used to assess whether seaweed contains toxic metals and pollutants.

Q2: What methods are used for elemental composition analysis of seaweed?

A2: A variety of techniques can be used to analyze the elemental composition of seaweeds, including ICP-OES, inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry, X-ray fluorescence spectrometry, elemental analyzer, etc. The choice of method depends on the type of element, the detection limit required, etc.
