Microbiological Activity Assessment Service

Discover the Hidden Depths of Anaerobic Digestion with Our Microbiological Activity Assessment

Each stage of anaerobic digestion involves different microbiota such as methane-forming archaea. The products and by-products formed at each stage have an impact on the efficiency of anaerobic digestion. At Creative Biolabs, we provide a one-stop microbiological activity assessment service according to our extensive experience in Anaerobic Digestion research. We are actively involved in research projects to improve the efficiency of anaerobic digestion and use our knowledge and skills to make a good contribution.

Our team of experts develops tailored analysis protocols according to specific research objectives and performs detailed data interpretation. The microbiological activity analysis consists of 5 days of anaerobic digestion and monitoring of the biogas. The analysis includes the following components:

  • Anaerobic digestion process simulation

We use advanced automated equipment to simulate the anaerobic digestion process and monitor various parameters such as pH, temperature, biogas production, etc., during the process.

  • Microbiological activity assays

We set up a series of laboratory-scale anaerobic digesters and tested for the following metrics.

  • Results analysis

The collected data is organized to analyze the different microbiological activities. If any of the phases performed below the expected values, we also analyze the reasons for this phenomenon and make some recommendations for improvement.

Each microbiome has its optimal environment. We help analyze the potential of microorganisms to convert specific Biomass to methane and optimize each stage of anaerobic digestion through our microbiological activity analysis service.

Published data

Anaerobic digestion is a multi-stage biochemical process with different microorganisms involved in each stage. In this study, the effect of the simultaneous action of head space and temperature on the biochemical methane potential of food waste was analyzed by detecting hydrolytic activity (HA), specific acidogenic activity (SAA), SMA, etc. The researchers found that the optimum temperature for anaerobic digestion of food waste was 48.9 °C and head space was 20% by comparison. This study provides data support for effective treatment of food waste and evaluation of microbiological activity at various stages.

Parameters Inoculum (n = 3)
SMA (gCODCH4/g VS·d) 0.15 ± 0.15
HA (gDQOGlucose/gVS.d) 0.26 ± 0.02
SAA (gDQOGlucose/gVS.d) 3.72 ± 0.25

FAQs

Q1: What is the significance of microbiological activity analysis for anaerobic digestion studies?

A1: Microbial communities play a vital role in the breakdown of biodegradable materials and the production of biogas at various stages of anaerobic digestion. Analysis of microbiological activity at different stages helps to assess the efficiency and stability of the anaerobic digestion process. By analyzing microbiological activity, researchers can also take several steps to optimize the anaerobic digestion process and increase biogas production.

Q2: What parameters are typically measured when performing a microbiological activity analysis?

A2: Our microbiological activity analysis includes anaerobic digestion simulation and testing for specific acid production capacity, SMA, and SAdA. During the process, if performance is found to be lower than expected at any stage, we also analyze the causes of this situation and give some recommendations to improve performance.
