Bespoke 3D Organoid Model

With the rapid development of biotechnology, there are still clinical needs that have not been fully met across the globe. To deal with a series of human health issues, scientists never stop developing new therapeutic drugs and exploring more personalized treatment options. According to previous practice applications, the flaws in the traditional models including 2D cell culture and animal models are being exposed gradually. As such, the need for new preclinical research models will remain unchanged in the short term.

Construction of 3D organoid models

With its popularity around the world, organoid technology has been practiced on most types of organs. Existing organoid models have diverse construction approaches, which all have their own characteristics but contain several common elements in most cases. For example, they often need soluble factors, matrix, as well as physical and integrating cues to create a suitable growth condition, as shown in Fig.1.

Current 3D Organoid Models

It is well known that 3D organoid models have developed for many decades since their inception. Now, such models are more sophisticated and have been extensively employed in many research fields. Given their various advantages, they are an evaluable platform for investigating tissue development, modeling human diseases, and developing regeneration medicine and individualized medicine. As a promising in vitro research tool, the organoid culture system has great potential to bring more breakthrough for new drug discovery.
