As an undisputed forerunner in the field of antibody development, Creative Biolabs is able to provide high-quality monoclonal, polyclonal, and recombinant antibody development services for diagnostic uses. Here, we introduce our in vitro diagnostic (IVD) antibody development services targeting the β-thromboglobulin marker.

General Description of β-thromboglobulin

β-thromboglobulin protein, also referred to pro-platelet basic protein, is a type of chemokine (C-X-C motif) ligand 7. β-thromboglobulin is a heparin-binding and platelet-derived protein with a low molecular weight. Similar to platelet factor-4 (PF-4), β-thromboglobulin is localized in the platelet alpha-granule. There is little evidence that the degree of platelet activation associated with routine platelet preparation and storage adversely affects the ability of transfused platelets to circulate, correct the bleeding time, produce acceptable corrected count increments, and arrest bleeding. In fact, activated platelets have been shown to continue to circulate and function in a nonhuman primate model of platelet transfusion. However, it is likely that platelet activation is attributed to the preparation and storage of platelets is partially responsible for their deterioration, as assessed by certain in vivo tests of platelet function.

The Role of β-thromboglobulin Sepsis

Elevation of β-thromboglobulin levels precedes the clinical development of preeclampsia. In contrast with normal pregnancy, levels of β-thromboglobulin did not correlate with increased fibrinopeptide A – a marker of thrombin generation – reported in preeclampsia. Alterations in platelet-bound immunoglobulins might be from the deposition of autoreactive antibodies or immune complexes caused by placental tissue antigens. Biomarkers can be useful for identifying or ruling out sepsis, identifying patients who may benefit from specific therapies or assessing the response to therapy. In sepsis, coagulation system and platelets are strongly activated. Plasma levels of β-thromboglobulin and platelet factor 4 are indices of platelet activation in vivo.
