Creative Biolabs is one of the leading custom antibody generation and development providers. We specialize in the generation of antibodies against a wide range of targets for R&D, diagnostic, and therapeutic applications. Currently, we have launched a series of in vitro diagnostic (IVD) antibody development services targeting numerous diagnostic biomarkers of human diseases. Here, we focus on the Gas-6 as a marker of sepsis.
Introduction of Gas-6
Growth arrest-specific 6, also known as GAS6 or Gas-6, is a 75-kDa protein structurally related to protein S, a cofactor for the protein C anticoagulant pathway. It was originally found in 1988 through the screening of genes whose expression was upregulated in growth arrest embryonic mouse fibroblast. As a member of the family of plasma vitamin K-dependent proteins, Gas-6 has widely expressed in leukocytes and platelets as well as terminally differentiated cells in numerous organs such as vascular smooth muscle cells, endothelial cells, fibroblasts, bone marrow stromal cells, monocytes, and neurons. Importantly, studies have shown that Gas-6 can interact with receptor tyrosine kinases of the TAM (Tyro-3, Axl, Mer) family and has the ability of up- or downregulating various processes including survival and proliferation in different cell types, granulocyte adhesion to vascular endothelium, cell migration, thrombus stabilization after platelet activation, cytokine release, and protection from cellular death.

Gas-6 Marker of Sepsis
Severe sepsis and septic shock remain the leading causes of death in critically ill patients in intensive care units. Hence, early identification of patients at risk for developing sepsis and septic shock continues to represent a critical step in clinical management during intensive care. It has been reported that the Gas-6/TAM system plays an important role in innate immunity control, inflammatory disease, autoimmune disease, and cancer. Recently, increased plasma Gas-6 levels have been described in patients with sepsis and septic shock, in which Gas-6 concentrations appear to correlate with disease severity and increased mortality. In this case, the plasma level of Gas-6 can be used as a specific marker for the diagnosis of sepsis.
IVD Antibody Development Services for Gas-6 Marker
Biomarkers are proteins or enzymes which can be detected in serum, plasma, or blood and provide crucial diagnostic and prognostic value. With the rapid development of IVD technology, IVD antibodies have been extensively used as important tools for the diagnosis of numerous diseases. As a potential biomarker of sepsis, Gas-6 has a promising role for the forecast of risk for developing sepsis. With our versatile IVD platform, Creative Biolabs is proud to develop novel anti-Gas 6 antibody from scratch to commercial IVD kit (we can also start with provided antibody candidates).
