Skin-on-a-Chip Model Introduction

Creative Biolabs has been making efforts to develop our own commercially available skin-on-a-chip model. We have produced skin-on-a-chip model that incorporates a wide variety of cell types and structures that better resemble the real structure of the skin.

Construction of our Skin on-a-chip Model

The skin-on-a-chip model incorporates a fibrin-based dermal matrix to enhance the representation of human skin's structure and functions. The microfluidic device consists of five microstructured poly layers that are thermally bonded together, and the model facilitates the co-culture of human fibroblasts and keratinocytes.

Advantages of Our Skin-on-a-chip Model

  • Proper vascularization allows an efficient nutrient and oxygen exchange, resulting in longer survival of the skin tissue.
  • Fulfill certain conditions such as mechanical properties, well-differentiated epidermis with stratum corneum, and dermis and epidermis properly linked through the basal lamina.
  • Able to better reproduce the tissue’s physiological environment.
  • Measure drug efficiency rapidly.
  • Allows the possibility of high-throughput platforms, where several conditions can be monitored at the same time under controlled parameters.

Applications of Skin-on-a-chip Model

  • Drug testing
  • Wound healing and tissue engineering.
  • In vitro applications for cosmetic products testing.
  • Skin diseases, skin irritation or allergies, and drug diffusion.
  • Skin graft applications
